Int intro.png

Sustainable brand of home textiles dedicated to people looking for sophisticated and eco-friendly designs.

GOAL

My task was to design an online store based on the provided design brief.

Role - UI/UX Designer

Team - Individual/ CareerFoundry Course

Timeline - December 2021

Tool - Figma, Hand-drawn sketching, Skype

Objective - Help everyone find products quickly and easily to match their particular needs.

The 5 Ws

1. Who
This tool is for people who want to shop for key items without going into a physical store. Your online store is particularly valuable for people who struggle to find the items they want in traditional stores. Most of the users will be proficient with technology but will greatly benefit from basic navigation and clean design.

2. What
A responsive website, web app, and/or mobile app that shows users the inventory and can be filtered in particular ways depending on their needs. The tool allows users to purchase their desired goods and have them delivered to any address. Free return of the goods is possible.

3. When
This product will be used most often on commutes to and from work, in the evenings, during lunch breaks, and on weekends.

4. Where
Users can easily shop from anywhere they can connect to the internet, whether on a mobile device or on a desktop.

5. Why
Users don’t have the time or ability to visit physical stores and would rather buy their goods on the go or from home. It’s also more convenient to try out the items and easily return those that aren’t desired or appropriate without having to return to a physical store.

Quality and design - We provide excellent quality, simple elegant and modern design. We use high quality materials produced in Europe. Our limited series allow us to focus on details and finishing.

USER FLOW

Using the user stories from the project brief, I developed a user flow diagram for my product.

  • As a new customer, I want to access the inventory without having to register, so that I can make sure this store has what I’m looking for before having to create an account.

  • As a returning customer, I want to be able to save items that I cannot buy to a wish list, so that I can purchase them at a later date.

  • As a returning customer, I want to see an overview of my previous activity, so that I can view previous purchases and search history.

  • As a frequent customer, I want to see recommendations of products I may like, so that I find items I might not otherwise on my own.

WIREFRAMES

Based on my flow diagram, I created low-, mid-, and high-fidelity wireframes using pen and paper first and then moving onto Figma.

User Testing
Once I created the wireframes,  I tested the designs for my user flow. I used a scenario-based prototype test that encouraged participants to test the user flow. I recruited 4 participants, gave them the scenario, recorded and analyzed their feedback, and incorporated relevant changes into my designs.

Changes according to the proposed solutions:
I changed the image on the home page so the logo is more visible.
I corrected the kerning in the text below the logo.
I set the price higher.
I set the navigation to stick to the screen.

STYLE GUIDE

LOGOTYPE

The logotype is a combination of the letter "i" "n" "t" in Italiana font. The shortening comes from the word interior. The accent is a big dot over the "i". They should always appear in this size relationship. The logo is elegant, subtle, and is related to the sophisticated design of home textiles. The logo is always either white or black.

TYPOGRAPHY

Italiana

Traditional elegance with modern proportions is used in the logo, for titles and all accents.

Poppins

The second family of fonts is Poppins used for body text.

REFLECTIONS

My task was to create a shopping app, creating a visual identity based on the given design brief.

I created "Int" - a sustainable ethical home textiles brand delivering excellent quality, elegant and simple design.
Elegant, subtle logo, an abbreviation of the word interior, in Italiana font accented with a distinctive dot, and a powdered color palette express the character of the brand.
Following the user stories provided in the task, I created a user flow and wireframes accordingly.

I am happy with the design I created.  However, if I were to do this project again, I would make some changes.  I would change the shape of the buttons though. With the round shape, I wanted to reference the dot from the logo, but now I see that a standard button might have worked better. In the splash screen I would change the background, add video and cta movement there. I would extend the project with additional screens: shopping cart, payment.
